Commercial Real Estate Attorney

Job Description

This is a remote, project-based role for commercial real estate attorneys with experience in energy project development and/or power grid interconnection. You will review historical PJM / US East Coast power-generation interconnection applications for site-control compliance, evaluating real estate and site-control documentation including deeds, leases, options, easements, amendments, payment evidence, and related agreements to determine whether each application satisfies conveyance, term, and exclusivity requirements. Work is asynchronous, with an expected commitment of 5–20 hours per week variable by your personal schedule. This position offers exceptional pay, exposure to complex energy infrastructure legal work, and a strong addition to your professional portfolio.

Why Apply

  • Flexible Time Commitment – Work on your schedule while tackling substantive, high-value legal work
  • Startup Exposure – Work directly with an early-stage Y Combinator-backed company, gaining hands-on experience that sets you apart
  • Exceptional Pay – Project-based pay is $200/hour
  • Portfolio Building – Gain experience on complex energy project development and interconnection compliance matters
  • Professional Growth – Sharpen your skills on varied, challenging real estate and energy regulatory documentation

Responsibilities

  • Review historical PJM and US East Coast power-generation interconnection applications for site-control compliance
  • Evaluate real estate and site-control documentation — including deeds, leases, options, easements, amendments, and payment evidence — against conveyance, term, and exclusivity requirements
  • Produce structured annotations and legal reasoning for each application reviewed, with precise source citations including document name, page number, bounding box, and verbatim text
  • Identify deficiencies, ambiguities, or non-compliance issues in site-control documentation and clearly articulate legal reasoning
  • Document findings in a consistent, structured format suitable for downstream review and regulatory reference

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed attorney with 3+ years of experience in commercial real estate, energy project development, and/or PJM or power grid interconnection
  • Deep familiarity with real estate conveyance documents including deeds, leases, options, easements, and related agreements
  • Strong analytical and legal reasoning skills with the ability to work independently on document-intensive review tasks
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to produce precise, citation-supported legal annotations
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing
  • U.S Based

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with PJM interconnection processes, FERC regulations, or US East Coast energy project permitting
  • Familiarity with site-control compliance standards for utility-scale solar, wind, or battery storage projects
  • Experience with structured legal review workflows, document management platforms, or legal annotation tools
  • Background in energy transactions, project finance, or land acquisition for power generation projects
