Finance Experts (direct lending and alternative credit)
Role Overview
Mercor is hiring experienced Direct Lending and Alternative Credit professionals to collaborate with a leading AI research lab. This role focuses on helping develop and evaluate advanced AI systems designed to replicate real-world private credit, direct lending, and alternative investment workflows.
You will work closely with AI researchers to train, test, and refine AI agents so they can better support tasks such as deal underwriting, credit analysis, portfolio monitoring, and investor reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Detail the day-to-day workflows of professionals in direct lending, private credit, and alternative asset management
- Analyze and explain credit underwriting processes, including due diligence, risk assessment, and structuring
- Identify and categorize key documents used across private credit transactions (e.g., credit memos, IC materials, term sheets, covenants, lender presentations)
- Distinguish between public vs. private information in credit markets and lending processes
- Provide insight into deal sourcing, execution, and portfolio monitoring workflows
- Collaborate with AI researchers to translate real-world credit expertise into structured training data
Ideal Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in Direct Lending, Private Credit, Leveraged Finance, or Alternative Asset Management
- Experience at top-tier firms such as Ares, Apollo, Blackstone Credit, KKR Credit, Golub Capital, Oaktree, or similar
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
- Strong familiarity with credit agreements, financial covenants, underwriting models, and deal documentation
- Experience across middle-market lending, sponsor-backed deals, or structured credit is preferred
- Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills
Project Timeline
- Start Date: 1-2 weeks
- Commitment: Part-time (minimum 10 hours/week)

Contract and Payment Terms
- You will be engaged as an independent contractor.
- This is a fully remote role that can be completed on your own schedule.
- Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
- Your work at Mercor will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
- Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
